Milan on Monday

I have had a very busy few days traveling. On Monday, I traveled to Northern Italy on a high speed train. (We don't have those in the United States.) The train travels up to 185 miles per hour, which is about three times as fast as cars on I-465 in Indianapolis. I took in some very nice views of the Italian countryside while aboard the train.
In Milan, I visited the Duomo (cathedral) church in that city. It is the most incredible building I have ever seen in my life. It is also huge. The Duomo was built in parts beginning in the year 1386. The final details of the building were finished in 1965. That means the building you see was under construction for almost 600 years! I think it was worth it. Visitors are allowed to walk on the rooftop of the building. You will see some of my pictures taken from the roof.

Also in Milan is Sforza Castle. It was built in the 1400's and 1500's when Milan had its own king, known as the Duke of Milan. Improvements were added to the castle over time. Did you know that Italy has only been a country since 1861? Before this time, there were many different kingdoms and states in the land of Italy. Before becoming part of Italy, Milan was ruled by its own king, then Spain, France, and Austria.
While I was in Milan I had a chance to meet another family member of mine. She is a cousin who originally came from the Albanos' hometown of Pignola. This is Patrizia Albano. Patrizia cooked me a wonderful Italian meal for my visit! Delizioso!
